When you walk in the door, you'll go, "Wow!" And it will only get better. The first floor is packed with historical information about the car ferries and shipping, a replica wooden engine that "works", interactive kids items - including a lighthouse for kids to climb, holograms to greet you here and there, a theater with looping films, and a room of models of lighthouses throughout the country. The second floor includes an art gallery, a Coast Guard exhibit, a room full of boat and ship models - most built from scratch, and a full-size simulator room of the bridge of an old car ferry. Steer the boat into the harbor! The third floor includes two rooms of shipwrecks and salvage, and a third room with the 95' long Lunde scroll; a handmade and painted primitive artwork of the history of Ludington and Pere Marquette Lake. Don't forget the gift shop!

This is a must-see for the whole family if you enjoy shipping history.

Beautifully curated museum, the staff is very knowledgeable, you can tell they really care about sharing the history of the harbor and lake Michigan.

Excellent maritime museum loaded with information regarding shipping. Visual displays, artifacts and movie presentations provide historical information.

Very neat museum. Plenty of exhibits and activities to keep you occupied for a few hours (if you take the time to read). I wouldn't recommend for children under 8-10 age range simply because there aren't many "hands on" activities, but there's a lot to look at and read. Everything was well maintained and there was even an elevator to navigate the 3 floors of exhibits.

This brand new maritime museum captures the significant rail car service across Lake Michigan. They moved railway commerce on a "highway" of stout boats. Now a bygone era their story is well documented in a variety of interesting exhibits. Easy access. Family friendly. Plenty of parking.

This museum is conveniently located in Ludington, Michigan and admittance is reasonably priced.
